I've always had a strong connection with rivers, ever since I was a child.
I remember asking my mother to drop me off at the river in the morning. I'd spend the entire day fishing, never catching a thing, and she'd come back to collect me in the evening.
Looking back, I don't think it was ever really about catching fish. It was the solitude I loved. Just sitting quietly by the water, watching the world go by.
All these years later, not much has changed. I still find myself drawn to rivers, only now I've swapped the fishing rod for an easel.
This painting was created en plein air, sitting beside the water, enjoying that same wonderful sense of peace I discovered as a boy.
