When I'm back in the studio and in the mood for a bit of colour and experimentation, I often find myself revisiting places I've recently travelled to.
This particular scene is from Prague. In fact, there's a failed attempt at another Prague painting on the reverse of the paper! Waste not, want not.
It was the awnings that initially caught my attention, but what I love most about this painting now is the interplay between the warm and cool granulating colours. There's a lovely sense of vibration where they meet, giving the whole scene an energy that I hadn't quite anticipated.
Sometimes it's the unexpected things that make a painting work.
