My studio is just a ten-minute walk from Cork Docks, a place I've always enjoyed painting.
There's a wonderful mechanical symphony of sounds down here. Cranes loading and unloading ships, the clanking of machinery, boats coming and going, and people making their way towards the Marina Market for a bite to eat.
All of this creates a unique atmosphere as I stand there with my easel, trying to capture a little of the activity around me.
What I particularly love about this scene is the composition. The towering cranes, boats and industrial buildings create a wonderful variety of shapes and angles, with strong diagonals leading the eye through the painting.
It's a busy, working part of Cork, full of character, and exactly the sort of place I love to paint.
