One of my favourite times this summer was our family holiday in West Cork, staying in our little cottage by the sea.
Most mornings, I'd wake up, roll out of bed and practically roll straight into the ocean! After a refreshing swim and a quick shower, I'd grab my easel and head back down to the beach to paint the very sea I'd just been swimming in.
Not a bad way to start the day!
This painting was created on one of those lovely mornings at Broadstrand. What caught my eye was the beautiful interplay of warm and cool shadows stretching across the sand, with the morning light bringing out all sorts of subtle colours.
Meanwhile, the tide was slowly creeping towards me, a gentle reminder that I couldn't sit there painting forever!
A lovely little memory of summer mornings, salty swims and the simple pleasure of painting by the sea.
