Where the Light Falls

It was the final day of my Irish painting retreat, and with the help of my assistant, we were getting everyone organised for a trip to a rather special beach.

It's a place many of my followers will recognise from my reels. I've painted here countless times, and some of my most popular paintings and videos have come from this very spot.

One of my students, Natacha, had specifically asked if we could visit. Of course we could! After all, it seemed only right to bring everyone to a place they'd seen me paint so often.

And it certainly didn't disappoint.

For my first demonstration, I wanted to show my students how much could be achieved with just a few carefully considered shapes and brushstrokes.

What really struck me that morning was the extraordinary brightness of the sunlight. It bounced off the shallow water, spilling onto the beach and catching the little pebbles, making them glimmer in the light.

It was one of those scenes where less really is more. A few simple shapes, a little colour, and some untouched white paper to let that beautiful light do the talking.

A lovely way to bring a wonderful week of painting to a close.
