A Taste of Provence

A Taste of Provence

Perched above a beautiful French courtyard in Provence, I painted this as a demonstration for my students during one of my painting retreats in the South of France.

What caught my eye was the wonderful warmth of the terracotta buildings, contrasting with the brilliant sunlight catching the rooftops. There's something about the light in Provence that makes even the simplest scene feel rather special.

We were just about to head down for a leisurely lunch and, of course, a glass or two of fine French wine. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!

A lovely reminder of warm sunshine, good company and the simple pleasures of painting in Provence.

Original Watercolour Painting

Size: approx. 9 × 12 inches (22.9 × 30.5 cm)

Painted on Arches 300gsm cold-pressed watercolour paper using Daniel Smith Extra Fine watercolours.
