This painting came about during an outing with my painting group, Cork Plein Air.
We took the ferry across Cork Harbour to Cobh (pronounced cove), a journey of about half an hour, before gathering around the pier with our easels and paints.
I found myself a lovely spot overlooking the boats below, which were sitting quietly in the harbour at low tide.
What particularly caught my attention was the reflection of Cobh Cathedral in the water. It's one of the town's most recognisable landmarks, towering above the colourful buildings, and I was delighted to find a way of including it in the painting.
There's something I really enjoy about painting harbours. The boats, their reflections, the shapes and angles, and all those little details that make a working waterfront so interesting.
A lovely day out painting with friends, and a scene I was very happy to capture.
