Another morning in West Cork, rolling out of bed and straight into the sea to wash the sleep from my eyes!
It was nearing the end of summer, and the water was beginning to lose some of its warmth. Nothing like a refreshing dip to wake you up!
After my swim, I popped back to the house, grabbed my easel and headed straight back to the beach to paint.
What struck me that morning was the beautiful, cloudless sky. A wonderful warm blue that seemed to fill the whole scene with light. I was also drawn to the subtle reflections on the wet stones, catching little hints of colour from the sky above.
There was a lovely stillness about the place, and I wanted to capture that sense of calm with soft washes and a simple composition.
The best part? I made it home, having had a swim and completed a painting, only to discover the rest of the household was still fast asleep.
Now that's what I call a good start to the day!
