The sun was shining, and what a spectacular sight greeted us! There's something quite enthralling about the sheer scale of this structure, surrounded by the natural beauty of the River Lee.
I was immediately drawn to the reflections in the water and the constant sound of the river below. There's a wonderful contrast between the solid, imposing structure of the dam and the movement of the water around it.
And from a painter's point of view, this scene had everything! Diagonals, verticals, horizontals, reflections and beautiful rays of sunlight cutting through the composition. Almost too much to choose from!
I love finding beauty in unexpected places, and this was certainly one of them. A fantastic subject and another thoroughly enjoyable day painting outdoors with friends.
