Another day at Art in the Open 2026, and this time I didn't have to venture very far to find my painting spot!
In fact, I didn't even leave the car park. I simply opened the boot of my van, positioned myself underneath it for a bit of shade, and got painting. Plein air painting doesn't always have to involve trekking across fields with an easel on your back!
What caught my eye was the lovely view towards Wexford town, with its church steeples rising above the distant landscape.
But it was the shadows of the trees that really drew me in, particularly that wonderful sweeping shadow entering the composition from the left foreground. I loved how it led the eye into the scene, creating a sense of depth and bringing all the different elements together.
A beautiful view, some welcome shade and my painting equipment within arm's reach. What more could a painter ask for?
