On my way back to the hotel after a day exploring Prague, I stumbled upon an archway offering some very welcome shade from the afternoon sun. Naturally, I couldn't resist stopping to paint!
The view happened to look straight up towards my hotel, its beautiful façade illuminated by the sunlight, almost like a beacon amongst the surrounding buildings.
What really caught my attention was the steeple rising above the rooftops, sitting in glorious silence while the hustle and bustle of Prague carried on below.
I loved that contrast. The warmth of the sunlit architecture, the deep shadows of the surrounding buildings and that wonderful sense of calm above the busy streets.
One of the things I enjoy most about plein air painting is stumbling across scenes like this when you're not particularly looking for them. Sometimes the best painting spots find you!
