It was one of those glorious summer mornings at Broadstrand in West Cork. Blue skies, golden sand and sunshine. Who would believe we're in Ireland?
What initially caught my eye was a shallow pool left behind by the receding tide, beautifully reflecting a little blue boat resting on the beach.
This particular boat makes an appearance every summer, and although I've painted it a few times, I've yet to actually see it on the water! Not that I'm complaining. I'm perfectly happy for it to stay exactly where it is, as it makes such a wonderful subject to paint.
I particularly loved the reflection in the tidal pool, with the blue of the boat contrasting against the warm yellows of the sand. Sometimes it's these simple little details that make a scene irresistible.
A beautiful morning, a familiar little boat and another excuse to spend a few hours painting by the sea. Not a bad way to start the day!
