Another beautiful day painting en plein air, this time in the charming little village of Passage East in County Waterford.
I found myself a lovely shaded spot overlooking the village, with the sun illuminating the white buildings against the deep greens of the hillside behind.
It was that contrast of light and dark that first caught my attention. I particularly enjoyed the long shadows stretching across the foreground, helping to lead the eye into the scene.
And, of course, I couldn't resist including that little red road sign! I'm a sucker for these small splashes of colour, especially when they help break up the larger shapes and add a bit of interest to the composition.
I loved the challenge of capturing all that bright sunshine while keeping the painting loose and spontaneous, allowing just a few carefully placed brushstrokes to suggest the buildings, cars and figures.
A lovely afternoon spent painting in the shade, watching village life carry on around me.
