It's funny where inspiration strikes. Sometimes you travel miles looking for the perfect painting subject, and other times you're simply sitting in the car waiting for your mother!
On this particular occasion, I was parked in Macroom while my mother popped into the post office. As I sat there, my attention wandered to the wonderfully characterful fish shop across the street.
The beautiful orange façade immediately caught my eye, particularly against the cooler greys and blues of the surrounding buildings. And then there was that old bicycle hanging from the wall above the shopfront. What a wonderful little detail!
The longer I looked, the more I realised what a fantastic subject it would make. All those interesting shapes, textures and little quirks that give an old building its personality.
It's these ordinary, everyday scenes that I often find the most inspiring. Sometimes all you need to do is sit still long enough to notice them!
