Another outing to Cobh with my painting group, Cork Plein Air, and this time I found myself turning my back on the colourful town and its familiar waterfront.
Instead, my attention was drawn to a little fishing boat resting quietly alongside the pier, with my friend Hari painting away in the background.
What really appealed to me was the beautiful evening light. Those soft mauves and purples in the distant hills and sky, contrasting with the rich reds and turquoise of the boat. And, of course, those wonderful reflections dancing across the water.
I particularly enjoyed keeping the distant landscape soft and understated, allowing the boat and its reflections to take centre stage.
There's something very peaceful about a working harbour as the day draws to a close. The boats settling in, the light beginning to fade and a fellow artist enjoying the scene alongside you.
A lovely way to spend an evening with a paintbrush in hand.
