Through the Archway, Garnish Island

€330.00

This painting was created as a demonstration for my students during my West Cork painting retreat, on the beautiful Garnish Island.

The magnificent stone archway immediately caught my attention, particularly the way it framed the view beyond. I loved the steps leading up towards it, with visitors wandering through to admire the scenery.

But what really appealed to me was the reflection in the water below. The strong architectural shapes of the archway contrasted beautifully with the softer, more fluid reflections, while the surrounding gardens provided wonderful splashes of colour.

And I had a rather unexpected audience!

A beautiful tabby cat appeared as I began painting, settled down directly in front of me and proceeded to watch the entire demonstration. He barely moved! Whether he was fascinated by my brushwork or simply wondering what on earth I was doing, I'll never know.

It's moments like these that make plein air painting so enjoyable. Beautiful surroundings, wonderful company and, occasionally, a four-legged art critic!
