The Last Light, Ballycotton

€490.00

Ballycotton Lighthouse, standing proudly against a dramatic golden sky, with a fishing boat passing through the waters below.

This studio painting was inspired by a beautiful photograph taken by wildlife and nature photographer Sebastian Pálmay. I was immediately drawn to the extraordinary warmth of the sky and the almost silhouetted shapes of the lighthouse, island and boat.

I particularly enjoyed working with a limited palette, allowing the colours to merge and granulate naturally, creating those wonderful textures in the sky and sea.

The birds circling overhead bring a sense of movement to the scene, while the lighthouse remains perfectly still, watching over the water.

A simple composition, but one where the atmosphere and colour do most of the talking.

Photographic inspiration: With thanks to Sebastian Pálmay, whose original photograph inspired this painting. You can explore his wonderful wildlife and nature photography at www.sebastianpalmay.com.
